Student Ministry

Pursuit – To Seek, To Attain, To Chase After…

The student ministry here at Highland has been named “Pursuit” and it is all about guiding students to a life of pursuingChrist above all else. We desire to see teens seek after God with a voracious passion. Our ultimate purpose is to see teenagers becoming more “Christ-like” each and every day. We know that the only way we can see that goal become a reality is to show students how to pursueGod and make Him their greatest devotion

The emphasis on pursuit came prayerfully through a focus on Psalm 63:1-3. It states:

O God, you are my God; I earnestly search for you. My soul thirsts for you; my whole body longs for you in this parched and weary land where there is no water. I have seen you in your sanctuary and gazed upon your power and glory. Your unfailing love is better than life itself; how I praise you!

Pursuit Student Ministries seeks to help student develop a relationship with Christ.

The first step in pursuing Christ always is seeing a student become a new creation as we see in 2 Corinthians 5:17.

Pursuit Student Ministry seeks to help students learn that true joy can only be found in Christ.

In today’s world, students are being pulled in many different directions and are being told where their identity should come from. True identity cannot be found in academics, athletics, relationships, or any other worldly pursuit. Our identity, and therefore our joy, must be found in Christ. We see this truth in 1 Corinthians 12:27. It says, “Now you are the body of Christ and each of you is a part of it.” Upon salvation, we become a part of Christ and He dwells in us.

Pursuit Student Ministry seeks to help students understand that we must be willing to offer all we have for Christ.

This Christian doctrine is found clearly in Romans 12:1-2. It states, “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.” To be a willing sacrifice means that if we are truly pursuing Christ, we know that His will is greater than ours and we lay aside personal plans for God’s perfect will.
